Austrian defence technology company Schiebel has unveiled two new products – the Camcopter S-101 and Camcopter S-301 – marking the next generation of unmanned helicopter systems purpose-built for military operations.
Building on the global success of the proven Camcopter S-100, which has seen widespread service with armies and navies worldwide, the new armed variants introduce enhanced capability for precision strike missions.
According to Schiebel, the S-101 and S-301 platforms represent a significant evolution in tactical unmanned air systems (UAS), featuring advanced performance, military-grade systems integration, embedded artificial intelligence and a robust design tailored for demanding, multi-domain operations.
Both models are engineered to operate effectively in contested electromagnetic environments, ensuring resilience even under the most challenging conditions.
The new systems are being developed and manufactured by Schiebel Defence GmbH, a recently established subsidiary based in Wiener Neustadt, Austria, dedicated exclusively to armed UAS.
The platforms are designed around the integration of existing missile and rocket systems suitable for rotary-wing aircraft, offering persistent and distributed lethality with the ability to engage targets at stand-off ranges.
Schiebel said the creation of the subsidiary and the launch of the armed Camcopter platforms reflect a direct response to shifting global security dynamics and increasing demand for weaponised autonomous systems.
“The worldwide security landscape is shifting rapidly and we are seeing a significant increase in demand for armed unmanned platforms and systems,” said Hans Georg Schiebel, chairman of the Schiebel Group.
